Animal Control

Animal Control

Animal Control has a different mandate than rescue groups.  It is focused on enforcing county by laws and dealing with complaints about animals.

Webmaster Notes:

  • the following is not a complete listing of animal control

  • Every county in the province has its own arrangements.

  • In some instances, sheltering is contracted out

  • the webmaster is currently researching animal control county by county but will not list anything on a website about rescuing pets without verification.  Counties that do not work with rescue groups for rehoming will not be listed.  If you are an animal control officer in Nova Scotia and would like your efforts on behalf of the animals promoted, please do not hesitate to contact the Webmaster to discuss a listing.

Why adopt from your local animal control?

  • you're definitely saving a life as many pounds keep a tight timeline on holding periods before killing the animal

  • the adoption fees are usually very modest.

  • although the fees do not include vaccines and spay/neuter, in some areas vets will offer a discount for "pound puppies"
