| A Beagle is more than a breed
of dog, it is a philosophy. A Beagle is kind, happy, innocent, full of
life and all heart. From "Snoopy" on, there is a little bit of beagle in
every pooch.
Ever since Snoopy burst into our
collective consciousness, there have been no shortage of nice little
Beagles to be found. Although beagles are often referred to as
rabbit hounds, not all beagles make good hunters.... any more than all
labs make good retrievers in the field.
Beagles come into rescue for a variety
of reasons. They are often abandoned in remote areas when they do
not prove to be good hunting dogs. Beagles are sometimes rescued
from outdoor pens with inadequate shelter - cruelty two times over
because they do not have the type of coat suited to outdoor living and
beagles are very loving companionable dogs who are at their best in the
company of the people they love.
Beagles are not for everyone.
Even when they are not hunters, their little hound noses will still lead
them astray if they are not in a securely fenced yard. Generally
beagles need to be walked on a leash or a long lead, for safety's sake
too.
Beagles are loving and affectionate
family pets. In truth, happiness isn't just a warm puppy, its a
beagle of any age! All the lovely beagles pictured below are
available here in Nova Scotia - just click on their names for more
details.
Webmaster Note: Although Beagles are
often available from many rescues and shelters in Nova Scotia, if you
are interested in adopting a beagle, it would time well spent to check
out the wonderful resources and information at
Beagle Paws
.... who also now have a local branch here in NS.
