Note from the Webmaster:   Until there is an established SPAY NEUTER ASSIST PROGRAM (SNAP) for all of Nova Scotia, homeless cats will far outnumber the homeless dogs.  In order to keep listings current, both lists below include both genders of cats.

Why Adopt a Shelter Cat?
  • SAVE MONEY:    Your cat will already be Vaccinated, Spayed or Neutered and have been tested for Feline Leukemia.
  • SAVE A LIFE:    Not all shelters are No Kill
  • DON'T SUPPORT STUPIDITY.   Some people simply won't spay their cats as long as someone is willing to take the kittens.
  • TEACH YOUR CHILDREN COMPASSION AND VALUES.  Humane education begins at home and your children will learn lessons about responsibility and ethics  that will last a lifetime.
  • NO SURPRISES:   Known health issues are never kept secret.  Adult cats have grown into their personalites so that it can be easier to recognize that kindred spirit.

Important Cat News from the LA Animal Shelter Website
For a short time there will be no adoption fees for cats. Instead, cats may be adopted with a minimum donation of $50. Our cats are spayed and neutered and have had their needles. We are doing this in order to free up more cat spaces at the shelter so that we can help deal with the overpopulation of homeless cats in Cumberland County.
