Anyone who lives in Nova Scotia will remember the chaos that was caused when lovable little Willy was fostered out by a friend from his church while his owner's house was rebuilt after a fire.  Avoid any misunderstandings and legal difficulties with a written Foster Care Agreement

Finding Lost Cats    and    Finding Lost Dogs

Why has this been included in a feature about Pet Retention?  To put it very simply, studies have shown that we need to rethink both our ideas of WHERE stray pets come from and how to search for our own pets when they become lost.

Why?  What's the first thing that happens when we lose our pets?  We make up 8 by 11 flyers and post them everywhere.  We call Animal Control.

What's wrong with that?  Studies have shown that people who find a lost pet are often unwilling to call Animal Control because they are afraid the pet will not live to tell the tale.  Most people try placing ads online and on the radio first.  By the time the pets are brought to Animal Control or a shelter, the grieving and heartbroken owners have given up the search and have stopped going to the shelter to look.

At the end of the day, every lost pet that is successfully reunited with their family is one less pet that will enter the shelter system.  Better still, every reunion represents the Ultimate Happy Tail .... staying Friends for Life.
